Sustainability
The Team Plan Sustainability Division is dedicated to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing energy efficiency in our communties. We do this by promoting and participating in greenhouse gas inventories, establishing carbon footprints, and developing energy conservation strategies with measurable and attainable results. When you work with our team of LEED AP certified professionals, you will not only gain access to significant resources and design knowledge, but also a wealth of industry experience. Read about some of the diverese areas of our expertise below.
Climate Action Plans (CAP's, also know as Sustainability Action Plans) are the blueprints developed for communities providing the methods to reduce their carbon footprint and increase energy efficiency in accordance with local, State, Federal, and international goals. The U.S. Conference of Mayors Climate Protection Agreement, in line with the Kyoto Protocol, established the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions below 1990 levels. Team Plan works with communities to exceed this goal based on greenhouse gas inventories, cost/benefit analysis of retrofittimg existing buildings, implementation of energy efficient strategies for new development, and measurable results.
Building Commissioning is the process during which a structure is analyzed, tested and certified after occupation for compliance with energy efficiency and modeling goals during the design/retrofitting stages of a project. Used primarily by the USGBC, certification determines the final LEED designation assigned to a building. LEED designations are as follows:
Platinum - 80 and above
Gold - 79
Silver - 59
Certified - 49
Team Plan assists in this process by designing cost effective interior and exterior landscape plans, water gardens utilizing captured rainwater, passive solar systems (shading and low albedo techniques, building orientation), daylight modeling studies, and green roof designs. Our team of seasoned and professional landscape architects and urban designers are led by LEED AP certified division directors to ensure your project attains the points designed by Team Plan.
Team Plan Inc. has partnered with Environmental Services Inc. (ESI) to provide carbon sequestration services for public, private, and institutional clients. Our methodology includes tree inventories by trained arborists, canopy assessments, and thermal imaging analysis to determine hot-spots for tree planting programs. The master landscape plan developed for these areas by Team Plan provides immediate pay-back in the form of visual enhancement and beautification, temperature reduction, and carbon offsets.
Typically the largest bang-for-your-buck, carbon sequestration plans provide the best cost/benefit in the form of dollars spent and benefits gained for a community, campus, or development. Team Plan also utlizes this opportunity to ensure your community/facility receives or maintains the Tree City designation from the Arborist Society and Cool Cities designation from the Sierra Club.
HB 697 is a landmark bill approved by the State House and Senate and signed into law by the Governor of Florida in July 2008. The bill is revolutionary because it requires incorporation of greenhouse gas reduction and increased energy efficiency goals, policies, and objectives into county and municipal Comprehensive Plans. In Florida, Comp Plans provide the map for future growth, infrastructure development, and economic diversity and are mandated by the Growth Management Act of 1984.
HB 697 requires that communities set goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase energy efficiency in four areas: future land use, transportation, conservation, and housing. Team Plan works with communities to develop meaninglful and measurable goals that can be successfully attained and to ensure a determination of compliance by the Department of Community Affairs (DCA).
Sustainability is a wide-ranging term that can be applied to almost every aspect of life, from a local to global scale. In a broad sense, it is our capacity to endure over time. Adequate sustainability requires water (w), food (f), shelter (s), and energy (e) over time:
S = w+f+s+e / t²
Efforts to live more sustainably can take many forms, from reorganizing every day living conditions into ecofriendly communities and sustainable cities, to fostering emerging economic sectors (green buildings, sustainable agriculture) or work practices (sustainable architecture), to using science to develop new technologies (renewable energy), or by adjusting your individual lifestyle.
At Team Plan we do our part by offering the following sustainable services:
